Pay and Receive Money via Text Message

August 31st, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Technical

Venmo LogoWhat is Venmo?
Venmo is an easy way to pay and receive money using your cell phone via text message. You will no longer have to make trips to an ATM machine or worry about writing checks and putting them in the mail. With Venmo, you can pay your friends, family, and favorite shops by simply sending a text message.

When you sign up, you receive an account where you can store your Venmo funds. If needed you can link your Venmo account to a credit card or checking account.  So, transferring money between friends, family, and businesses becomes fast and streamlined.

What’s the catch?
Venmo is a startup company who is just getting off the ground.  Although this may sound like a great idea this payment method is still in its infancy. I would suspect most businesses, are not supporting this as a payment method just yet. But, looking forward, I’m going to bank on this becoming huge!

George Clooney Receives the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award

August 30th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in General

George Clooney last night received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 62nd Annual Emmy Awards. After being handed the award he gave short speech. Two words come to mind: Class Act. At the end of his spiel he said, “… heres hoping that some very bright person right here in the room or at home watching can help find a way to keep the spotlight burning on these heartbreaking situations that continue to be heartbreaking long after the cameras go away. That would be an impressive accomplishment.” Then he shook his trophy in the air and walked off stage.

His statement is very true. A major catastrophe can happen and 6 months, a year, 5 years later no one remembers or cares about what happened, the people, the devastation, or the lasting long term events. Here’s a thought, maybe it’s you that can help remind the masses about these major life altering events.  Who knows, maybe George Clooney will even give you a job.

Reebok ZigTech Shoes

August 27th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Random

I was looking back at one of my old blogs from a different and much older version of this website.  Huh, the post was exactly four months ago to this day. In my post I talked about the Reebok ZigTech Shoes and how much I liked them.

Four months later, I can still say that I am 120% satisfied with my purchase. These shoes are by far the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned.

If any of you are looking for some new kicks I highly recommend them.  You can even customize them to your liking, right down to the stitching.

BlackBerry Thumb

Woman Recovering From ‘BlackBerry Thumb’ Surgery

I own and use a Blackberry device to talk and email friends, family, and clients everyday.  In fact, I have two BlackBerrys. The above referenced article states that she was writing emails to clients for 12 hours day.  I think it’s great that she a hard worker.  I know all about 12 hour days.  I wish more people would work hard and be passionate about what they do for a living.

My question is this: If your thumbs feel like they are about to fall off wouldn’t you try to minimize use of the device? Come on, figure out a different way to send those emails to stay in touch with your clients.  There is a vast array of differnt phones, desktop computers, laptops, netbooks, etc..

I don’t know about you, but, I think I would rather spend $300 on a netbook than have surgery on my thumbs.

League Update

August 27th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Billiards

Last night was the final showdown for league this session. Unfortunately, we did not win. We got off to a rocky start and finished the same way. The experience was bitter sweet. It was bitter in the sense that no one likes to lose. On the flip side, we have a phenomenal team with some fantastic players that will continue to play great. I’ve played on a lot of teams and by far this is the best one I have ever been on. We will continue to grow as a team which will only make us more dangerous.

Are we down and out? Absolutely not! Just because we didn’t take the trophy last night doesn’t mean we are done yet! We are guaranteed a spot at Tri Cup which is the next level of play. Mark my words.. We are not done raising hell quite yet! =]

League

August 26th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Billiards

For several years I have been involved with shooting in 8-ball pool leagues.  I have shot in two different formats.  The first was a BCA (Billiard Congress of America) league and more recently I have been shooting APA (American Poolplayers Association).

Beginning this session, I had a team comprised of people who had mostly never shot league before.  As this season progressed my teammates really stepped it up.  I am really proud of the team.  We play in the finals tonight against Bob Morris, the league director’s team.  I do believe we will be taking the trophy home tonight.  Sorry Bob, you are going down.

Last week we beat out the number one team.  Man ohh man, talk about an upset.  Because we beat them (into submission) last week we automatically are going to Tri Cup!  I have never played in an actual “tournament” before.  I am really looking forward to watching all of this unfold.
