I want to begin creating YouTube videos for my law firm using our iPads. This seemed like a simple enough task, but I soon realized the front facing camera and audio quality is less than desirable. In order to achieve the quality audio and video I am accustom to I knew I would need to use the rear iPad 2 camera and an external microphone.

I purchased an Azden lavalier microphone, also referred to as lapel microphone, a 25 foot male to female extension cable, and a third party microphone adapter for my iPad 2. Now, I can “mic up” and record the attorney with proper audio and video at whatever distance I feel necessary for the given recording.

I purchased the equipment yesterday. I have received shipment notifications on all items purchased. When I receive the packages and test it out I will post a video to show you the end result.

During my time with T-Mobile I have had nothing but good things to say about them. Their customer service is fantastic. T-Mobile customer service representatives are friendly and always resolve issues quickly without a hassle. As an information technology professional I have had the pleasure (not) of dealing with many mobile cell phone carriers. I’ve dealt with Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, Boost, and of course T-Mobile. By far, hands down, I have been most satisfied with T-Mobile.

Enter AT&T. I know many people that have AT&T. It is mostly due to the fact they were the exclusive iPhone provider until just recently. If you know someone that has an iPhone you also know how passionate they are about their phones. It would seem the iPhone has become an extension of their being. I understand Apple makes great phones- That isn’t my argument. Have you talked to those same iPhone users about service? Even though they love their phones many will tell you that AT&T’s customer service is horrible. In fact, many of those same people will also tell you that their overall quality of phone service is lacking.

T-Mobile undeniably has a great network. T-Mobile’s 4G service is extremely fast and reliable- it screams. I use it frequently as a hot spot for my laptop. I can surf the web, watch videos, stream music, or do whatever else I want and all at the same time with no glitches. And, if all that isn’t enough I rarely ever have a dropped call. Yes, I still use my “phone” as a phone. I suppose my real concern is that my stellar service will be diminished by combing the AT&T and T-Mobile networks.

At this present time it is thought that it may take upwards of a year before the Federal Communications Commission, the Department of Justice, and other regulators will approve the AT&T T-Mobile merger. Until then I will be crossing my finger that this merger is denied. This is one T-Mobile customer that is far from happy about the acquisition.

The original intended use was to track vehicle parts. Now, you can scan a QR Code with your mobile phone and be directed to a website, email adress, an address on map, a download of a mobile application, etc.

Start thinking about all the uses you might have for QR codes. The number of ways you can use them are almost endless.

For example, give the QR code on this page a scan to follow me on twitter.

I own several hundred domain names and host a couple dozen websites. I have found that GoDaddy.com is by far the best provider for website hosting and purchasing of domain names. In addition, they also have a vast array of other services that can help you brand yourself or business, design logos, design websites, provide SSL certificates, email management, or even dedicated servers. GoDaddy is in the business of making sure you are online and stay that way with the guarantee of 99.9% uptime. In the 6 years I have been using GoDaddy.com to host my websites I have never had interrupted service.

If you are in the market for a website I strongly suggest you purchase your domain name and website hosting from GoDaddy.com, the best in the business.

If I can help you by answering any questions you might have with respect to domain names, website hosting, building a website, or anything related to this topic just drop me a line. I will be happy to assist you.

I’m not real sure why, but there seems to be a lot of confusion as to what domain names and web hosting are and what functions they perform. In this article I will do my best to explain what these things are, how they work, and do so with minimal technical jargon. With that being said, I am going to admit that I am a somewhat of nerd. So, consider this a mediocre disclaimer.

Before I get into anything specific I should point out that domain names and website hosting work together; they go hand in hand. If you are planning to build a website it is in your best interest to purchase both at the same time. Okay, with that being said, let’s get down to business.

Why do I need web hosting?
Are you planning on creating a website? If you are, then web hosting is a must. Web hosting is where your website files are stored on the internet and allows people to access the content you are providing online.

What is web hosting and what does it do?
When you purchase web hosting you are actually purchasing an allotment of hard disk space and bandwidth from a provider’s web server. The provider gives you Name Server records and an IP address to where those files are hosted on their server. You upload your website files to your hosting space to make them available on the internet.

Why do I need a domain name?
If you are planning to build a website you need a domain name. A domain name is what you see in your address bar above. For example, on this website the domain name is RyanDesmond.com. This creates an easily identifiable way for your online visitors to find you on the internet.

What does a domain name do?
A domain name points to an IP address of a server that hosts the files of a website. In the computer world everything boils down to numbers. Websites on the internet are actually IP Addresses. For example, when you go to Google.com you are actually visiting IP address 74.125.45.106. In the most basic terms, a domain name is simply a pointer to an IP address. I don’t know about you, but it is easier for me to remember Google.com than to remember 74.125.45.106 every time I need to search for something.

How do I use a domain name?
You can use a domain one of two ways. As you now know (from reading the above), a domain name is really just a pointer. So, when you purchase a domain name you can do one of two things with it. You can point your purchased domain name to an existing website or you can point the domain name to your web hosting account that “houses” your website files.

How do I purchase a domain name and hosting?
Purchasing domain names and hosting is easy. For domain names, you simply go to a domain registrant such as GoDaddy.com and search for available domain names. Once you find an available domain name of your liking simply add it to your online shopping cart. The next step is to purchase a hosting plan. Select the plan that works best for you and proceed to checkout. That’s it!

Now you have a domain name and hosting ready and available for a website.
